One of the things I like most about portrait photography is that I don’t just photograph one type or age of client. In any given week I might see a newborn, 8 year old, high school senior and mom-to-be. And I love each of these types of subjects for their own special reasons. But I have to admit, one of my most favorite images to capture, is the fun family portrait – the one that happened unexpected, with everyone relaxed and being themselves, when everyone forgot I was even taking pictures. It can be really hard to create. It usually happens later in the session. And when it does, I get something like this shot below.

But first, I have to admit, I adore this mom. She is a bundle of joy and energy and an incredible role model and teacher to so many kids – mine included. I was so excited when she asked me to take some newborn photos of their family because I know she is one of those women (as are many of my clients) for whom family pictures are true treasures. And I’m thinking a few of these are going to look really nice in their soon-to-be new home.

I love this mom and daughter who trusted me to go to a classy location for their senior session. We had a great time walking around and trying to take cover from the crazy wind. But really, even with the crazy wind, she still looks fabulous.

This had to be one of my favorite maternity sessions of all! Autumn had so much fun getting ready for our session - hair, make up, cute clothes. She really wanted to be young, stylish and a bit glamorous and, I must say, I think she nailed it!

Autumn is my go-to hair and make-up stylist and a great gal! I look forward to working with her more after a short maternity leave. short.

Reid is such a nice, tall and personable young man. We had a great time hanging out and getting these shots for his senior session. I especially loved the old movie projector he brought, since he is competing in the 24 Video Race this weekend and his team did take top honors last year! Good luck, Reid!

Amy was running a bit late when we started our session, and she was feeling a bit frazzled (not that she looks it AT ALL). So we just took it easy and her mom and dad were super helpful and we managed to get some fabulous shots in this Arts District session. Amy had the cutest clothes and killer shoes. And we love the food trucks we managed to find while we were there.

This beautiful senior gal wanted some images from the docks for her senior session. So we met at the Arboretum for a few shots, then drove to the lake for a few more.

I love that her Dad came with her to help her out and that she brought her favorite stuffed animal from childhood for a few shots.

Oh my, Miss Grace and her mom wrote the book on “How to be a perfect senior session client!” They did everything right, which means I had a bi-zillion images from this session that were fabulous!

First, they chose to use my makeup artist extraordinaire, Autumn. I cannot tell you enough how important it is to have good photography makeup for your session.

Then of course, they chose a beautiful location and the weather was perfect.

And lastly, they really put some thought into choosing each outfit for her session and had it completely accessorized using my guidelines. It could not have been smoother.
